COURSE A28: BI-DIRECTIONAL SHAFT ENCODER INTERFACE LOGIC
USES
In digital control systems, for speed feedback from rotating machines, such as,
motors, generators,Turbines etc.
PREREQUISITES
Course-A1. Introduction to VHDL and VLSI design (I)
CONTENTS
1. Understanding the construction of, bi-directional, optical, shaft encoders.
2. Frequency divider for internal timing and control.
3. Double buffered bus Interface logic, for 8/16 bit CPUs, for handshake free reading.
4. Debouncing and synchronizing the shaft encoder input pulses for removal of noise.
5. Designing the one clock wide, ‘One Shot’ logic.
6. Calculating the time interval between sequential pulses.
7. Generating the direction signal from the encoder pulses.
8. Calculating speed. |
